Libya's humanitarian aids convoy leaves for Gaza Strip - A Libyan humanitarian aids convoy, called "AL Qods 4 Car avan", left Tripoli Thursday by road for the Gaza Strip. The Caravan, put together by the Libyan Permanent Civil Committee Supporting the Palestinian people, is made up of 20 trucks carrying 1,000 tonnes of medical equipment, clothes, tents, and food stuff, a member of the committee, Said Al-Gaoud, told PANA here. The caravan is due in Gaza on Saturday after passing through Seloum on the Libyan border with Egypt. Al-Gaoud said "with support from the Egyptian authorities and their Red Crescent", the humanitarian aids would be taken safely to the city of Al-Arich from where they will be taken to the Gaza Strip through the Rafah Terminal. The Libyan Permanent Civil Committee Supporting the Palestinian people, formed in 2002, is made up of Libyan Civil Society Organizations, Unions and Professiona land craftsmen's Associations as well as private individuals. The committee has, at several times, initiated lots of humanitarian aids for the benefit of the Palestinian people. PANA recalls that the Kadhafi Foundation for Development (FDK), a Libyan NGO, had chartered the ship, "Al-Amel", with 2,000 tonnes of humanitarian aids on board, for Gaza. That ship left the Greek port of Lavrio in Greece mid July but was diverted by the Israeli Navy to the port of Al-Arich in Egypt, where it offloaded its cargo which was then transported by road route to Gaza by the Egyptian Red Crescent. {afriquejet} |
